A local blogger shares footage of the frozen lake near Anapa.
The famous Cypress Lake in the village of Sukko near Anapa has frozen over. A local blogger shared footage showing the water covered with a thin layer of ice and the tree roots lightly dusted with snow. Flocks of ducks sit on the smooth surface, with no tourists in sight, creating a quiet and calm atmosphere. As the Kuban region expects warming soon, we invite you to admire the winter beauty.
The 32 swamp cypresses are located in a specially protected area.
The swamp cypresses in Sukko are part of a specially protected natural area. A total of 32 rare trees grow in this artificially created reservoir. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources of Krasnodar Krai, the cypresses were planted in the 1930s, and their native habitat is North America.
The thin layer of ice on the lake has already begun melting.
Cold and ice do not harm the trees, biologist Veniamin Golubitchenko told the 93.RU portal. Moreover, this phenomenon is common for Sukko, as the lake freezes every year.
“This year the ice is not very thick, so it«s not such a big problem for them — the soil hasn»t frozen deeply. This year, the cypresses have even fewer problems with frost than last year. In general, this happens almost every year; to a greater or lesser extent, ice forms on Lake Sukko — or more precisely, it«s a dammed stream,” the expert said.
