Cold Snap Returns: Meteorologist's Forecast for Bashkiria
Frosty conditions are expected to return to Bashkiria in the coming days.
Next week in Bashkiria will see another cold snap, UFA1.RU was told by Alexander Ilyin, a specialist at the Meteo center. We asked him to provide a weather forecast for 2 to 8 February.
According to Ilyin, on Monday, 2 February, the republic will see light snow, which will intensify the next day. On Tuesday, from the second half of the day, the forecast notes a division: an atmospheric front will stretch from the southwestern districts in a northeastern direction.
«Bashkiria will remain in the warm sector of the cyclone until about Wednesday, with air temperatures in the republic«s capital ranging from -2 to -4 degrees Celsius (28.4 to 24.8°F), but from Thursday we»ll have to bundle up again, as cold Arctic air will collapse and it will get sharply colder,» the meteorologist said.
He emphasized that the cold snap will be «very serious» and will start on Wednesday evening.
«Temperatures will again approach -20 degrees Celsius (-4°F). During the day, the cooling will start in the western districts, and by the second half of the day the temperature will drop to minus 17–22 degrees Celsius (1.4 to -7.6°F), then the cold will begin to capture the central and eastern districts of Bashkiria. With the onset of darkness, Ufa could cool to minus 22–24 degrees Celsius (-7.6 to -11.2°F),» Alexander Ilyin said.
From Wednesday night into Thursday, according to Ilyin, most of the republic will see temperatures from -23 to -28 degrees Celsius (-9.4 to -18.4°F). However, precipitation will weaken during this period: snow will continue on Wednesday night, but at the start of the day it will begin to shift eastward, after which it will disappear completely. On Thursday, light snowfall is expected in the northern districts and in some central areas, but of such low intensity that, as the meteorologist noted, it won«t make a difference.
«The cold won«t last long,» reassured the specialist from Meteo. «Warm air masses from the west and southeast will begin to press in, so in the western districts it will warm up to minus 15–17 degrees Celsius (5 to 1.4°F) during the day, and in most parts temperatures of -16 to -21 (3.2 to -5.8°F) are expected. On Friday, another warm air mass will push out the cold air.»
According to the meteorologist, on Friday night in the western districts the temperature will be only minus 13–15 degrees Celsius (8.6 to 5°F), in the eastern ones minus 15–20 (5 to -4°F), and in most of Bashkiria from -9 to -15 (15.8 to 5°F). With the warming, snowfalls may return, but the probability is low, and even if they occur, they will be light.
As for winds, according to Alexander Ilyin, there is no need to worry either. In the first half of the week, their speed is forecast to be within 4–7 meters per second, and in the second half 2–5. Atmospheric pressure on Monday will be 757 millimeters of mercury, dropping to 750 by Wednesday, and then gradually rising again.
