Arkhangelsk Oblast hit by severe frosts, temperatures below -30°C

Despite temperatures plunging below -30°C, the winter scenery in Arkhangelsk Oblast remains visually striking and picturesque.
In Arkhangelsk Oblast, frosty conditions have returned, with daytime temperatures in some areas not differing much from nighttime lows. The forecast for northern residents on Friday, January 30, indicates continued cold weather.
In the Pomor region (Arkhangelsk Oblast), it will be cloudy with clear spells. Light snow is expected in some areas, with fog likely at night and in the morning. Winds will be northerly at 1-6 m/s.
Nighttime temperatures will range from -17 to -22°C (1 to -8°F), dropping to -27 to -32°C (-17 to -26°F) during clear spells. Daytime highs will be -12 to -17°C (10 to 1°F), with some areas seeing -22 to -27°C (-8 to -17°F).
«From January 29 to February 2, 2026, parts of Arkhangelsk Oblast can expect anomalously cold weather, with average daily air temperatures deviating from the climatic norm by 7 degrees Celsius or more towards colder values,» added forecasters from the Northern Hydrometeorological Service (UGMS).
