Andrei Shikhov warns of new heavy snowfall in Perm today

Evening snowfall in Perm is expected to reduce visibility significantly.
Doctor of Geographical Sciences Andrei Shikhov warns of another heavy snowfall. In the first two days of February, Perm has already received nine millimeters of precipitation, and in the region — up to 10.8 millimeters. But it«s too early to relax: the city is expecting a new snow hit today.
The new snowfall is forming in the west, where very cold air from a cyclone over the European part of Russia is colliding with warmer air masses coming into the Trans-Urals.
According to Perm State National Research University scientist Andrei Shikhov, snow will start today, February 3, in the afternoon and last until Wednesday morning. The peak intensity is forecast for late evening. Precipitation will cover almost the entire Perm Krai, except for western areas, and the heaviest snowfalls are expected in the east of the region.
In Perm itself, from seven to nine millimeters of precipitation may fall — this is about a quarter of the monthly norm for February. In scale, this snowfall will be three times weaker than the one from January 28 to 30. Nevertheless, the snow cover will continue to grow.
According to Andrei Shikhov, the likelihood of new snowfalls by the end of the week is increasing. Because of this, there is every chance to break the record for snow cover height in Perm in the 21st century — on March 7, 2017, the city recorded 93 centimeters of snow.
