Road works on a 14-kilometer section of the Yekaterinburg Ring Road (EKAD) are planned for 2026. Specialists will reconstruct the so-called northern semi-ring — a segment from the Tyumen Tract to the Rezhevskoy Tract, which is currently narrow and outdated.

The project envisions widening the road according to standards previously applied on the southern semi-ring. The width of each lane will be 3.75 meters, and shoulders — more than three meters. The total area of land involved in the construction will exceed 200 hectares.

One of the key objects of reconstruction will be the intersection of EKAD with the Berezovsky Tract, where the first three-level transport interchange in the Urals will appear. The section of the highway being reconstructed was built in 1998 and currently has only two lanes, which no longer meets the growing traffic load.

Engineers developed unconventional solutions to address the complexities of the interchange«s design.

The project for the unique interchange was developed by the company UralDorTechnologii. Its structure is divided into three levels:

The project includes stairway accesses and noise-protection screens for pedestrian and environmental considerations.

  • At the first level, for traffic from EKAD towards Yekaterinburg and Berezovsky (and back), a traffic circle will be organized.
  • The second level will be allocated for traffic flows on the Berezovsky Tract.
  • The third, highest level, is intended for traffic on EKAD itself.
Plans detail the expansion of the eastern EKAD section to three lanes in each direction.

The company stated: «During the design of the interchange, the construction of eight driveways and two U-turns was provided. Measures for the improvement of existing pedestrian paths are provided.»

The length of the upper overpass for traffic on EKAD will be 566 meters with a width of 18 meters. Its span structure will be made from special reinforced concrete beams.

The length of the overpass on the Berezovsky Tract (second level) will reach 200 meters. The design also includes reinforced concrete and metal barriers.

According to the designers, the implementation of the project will create convenient access to industrial and logistics centers, reduce road congestion, and decrease the number of road traffic accidents.

Previously on EKAD, works have already been completed to close the ring and widen the southern, eastern, and western parts of the highway.
