Yekaterinburg Mayor Announces New Metro Stations

Yekaterinburg Mayor Alexey Orlov announced the construction of two new metro stations. He made this statement at a meeting of the competitive commission for considering candidates for the head position, while summarizing his five-year term. His words were reported by Vecherny Yekaterinburg.
«Public discussions on changes to the General Plan regarding the extension of the existing metro line and the construction of two new stations have been held. In the coming years, we need to move to a technical and economic justification, and then proceed to the design of metro construction,» said Alexey Orlov.
Documentation for the construction of a new metro branch in Yekaterinburg will begin to be prepared this year.
Recall that after his appointment, the new governor Denis Pasler immediately stated the need to expand the metro in Yekaterinburg. However, he later clarified that the appearance of new branches is hindered by the region«s huge public debt — about 150 billion rubles (at current rates, approximately $1.5 billion; an economist disagreed with the regional head).
City authorities also noted that they want to change the direction of the second branch and direct it to the Akademichesky district. Builders have already estimated the costs of the work.
Yekaterinburg authorities will approve plans for metro development in the coming months. For this, they will have to adjust the General Plan. See where officials plan to direct the second and third branches.
