Yaroslavl's Perekop: Karabulinskaya interchange visualization

In Yaroslavl, construction of the third bridge across the Volga began in 2025, intended to be part of the city«s promised Karabulinskaya interchange. This was preceded by extensive work.

In 2022, the Moscow organization Institute Giprostroymost developed a scheme for the interchange, dividing it into five stages—these are segments of the interchange. The third bridge, incidentally, is the fourth stage, but it was decided to implement it first.

As for the road itself, according to the designers« developments, the first stage of its construction will pass through the Krasnoperekopsky District and will significantly change the street road network of this area.

It is important to note that this is not the final version, but a pre-design solution that will be refined in the course of further work. This was reported by the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Yaroslavl Region.

“We are not talking about approved design solutions, but about options that were proposed back in 2022—at the stage preceding the development of project documentation. Since then, the project has been transformed to meet modern standards and requirements. The presented visualization of the interchanges as part of stages 1, 2 and 3 is not a final project, but a pre-design solution that will be refined during further work,” the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure reported.

For the pre-design scheme of the Karabulinskaya interchange, the company Institute Giprostroymost was paid 227 million rubles ($2,522,200 at current rates). The same company won the auction for the design of the bridge and interchange for 360.8 million rubles ($4,008,900 at current rates) (fourth stage). For the other stages, working projects were not developed—only the visualization, which we propose to review.

Six-lane road

The section of the Karabulinskaya interchange in the Krasnoperekopsky District should run from the intersection of Tolbukhin Avenue with Bolshaya Fedorovskaya Street (from the bridge over the Kotorosl) to the intersection of Moskovsky Prospekt with Gogol Street. Its length, according to calculations, should be 2.5 kilometers. The road here is planned to be six-lane. Along it, sidewalks 3 meters wide will be built.

Two-level interchange and overpass

Also in the Krasnoperekopsky District, they plan to build two-level transport interchanges. One is proposed at the intersection with Bolshaya Fedorovskaya Street, the second at the intersection with 1st Vokzalnaya Street and then over the railway.

The designers explained that two-level interchanges will help preserve as much as possible the existing capital construction and railway infrastructure in these places, as well as the established transport links. Traffic regulation here will be carried out by traffic lights.

To ensure connection of the Karabulinskaya interchange with adjacent areas, as well as to separate transport flows by speed, side passages are provided. For vehicle turning near the exit from the Tolbuzinsky Bridge and the new interchange at Bolshaya Oktyabrskaya, they want to arrange an additional lane under the overpass.
