Yaroslavl seeks tram operator for 40 million rubles

In Yaroslavl, they are seeking a carrier to service two tram routes from February 12 to March 31. The authorities are ready to pay 40.4 million rubles (about $449,000 at current rates) for the work.

«The contractor undertakes to perform work related to the implementation of regular passenger and baggage transportation by city ground electric public transport at regulated tariffs on municipal regular transportation routes in the city of Yaroslavl,» states the draft contract.

It is specified that the routes in question are No. 5R «Hospital No. 9 — RIO Shopping Center» and No. 6R «RIO Shopping Center — Blukher Street». In the first direction, the carrier must deploy 10 trams, and in the second, two.

The acceptance of applications from those wishing to participate in the auction will continue until January 29. The auction will be held on January 30.

Previously, contracts for tram transportation in Yaroslavl were won by the company «Yargorelectrotrans». For example, it was this company that secured a contract for almost 10 million rubles (about $111,000) for 10 days of work on tram routes No. 5 and 6 in December 2025. JSC «YarGET» was the only one to submit an application to participate in the auction.

Recall that on December 15, 12 new trams were deployed to service routes No. 5R and No. 6R.

Since 2023, tram traffic has been modernized in Yaroslavl. This is being handled by the company «Movista Regiony Yaroslavl», with which a concession agreement was concluded. In addition to updated tracks, 47 new trams will be purchased for the city, with plans to renew eight traction substations, two overpasses (near Lakokraska and the Motor Plant), and a tram depot.

After the reconstruction is completed, «Movista Regiony Yaroslavl» will gain the right to manage the tram system for 20 years, profiting from its operation.
