Volgograd highway paralyzed by 10-km traffic jam

The R228 federal highway from Syzran to Saratov to Volgograd has been paralyzed by a giant 10-kilometer traffic jam: a line of cars stretched along the bridge over the Golyaya River (near Gorny Balykley) and, apparently, continues to grow.

Locals, who were interviewed by a V1.RU correspondent, complain about the terrible condition of the crossing, which can only be traversed at very low speeds.

«The road is such that if you drive fast, you»ll leave your car right there. So everyone is crawling like turtles.«

We have already written about this bridge. A video showing its condition was filmed in mid-January: just after the road surface was damaged by winter rains.

The Federal State Institution «Uprdor »Nizhne-Volzhskoe«» (Lower Volga Road Administration), which is responsible for the maintenance of the R-228 federal highway from Syzran to Saratov to Volgograd, responded at the time that they were aware of the problem and intended to fix it as soon as the weather permitted. But how soon it will be fixed is still unknown.
