Ulyanovsk may run out of de-icing agent: warming and snowfalls expected

Since the beginning of winter, Ulyanovsk road workers have already used up two-thirds (700 tons out of 1000) of the solid de-icing agent prepared in autumn. This was reported by the city administration. Considering that February is ahead, and in March streets often ice over due to possible freezing rain, the problem becomes urgent. To combat ice, they mostly rely on the traditional sand-salt mixture — about 30,000 tons were stockpiled, and less than half has been used so far.
As explained by the Municipal Budgetary Institution «Dorremstroy», the increased consumption of the agent is due to the fact that several abandoned road sections were taken over by the city.
The head of Ulyanovsk, Alexander Boldakin, instructed to promptly replenish the agent«s reserves.
— He set the task for road workers to continuously monitor the condition of the street-road network and promptly begin clearing the roadway, sidewalks, approaches, and driveways to socially significant institutions, — emphasized the mayor.
Recall that after abnormal cold, forecasters promise warming and snowfalls. The weather is expected to change in the second half of the week.
