Ufa Residents Debate Metro Construction as 'Expensive Entertainment'
Only 23% of Ufa residents polled support a metro, while 45% advocate for light rail or tram alternatives, according to local media comments.

So far, only 23% of UFA1.RU readers have voted that the city needs its own metro. The majority (45%) expressed support for the idea of a city train or light rail. We have collected comments from visitors to our portal with different opinions.
«To the question »is a metro needed?« I answered »yes,« but I understand that technically it»s not certain it«s possible,» admitted a reader.
«In Ufa, the need to solve road and transport problems has long been brewing,» wrote a site guest. «Trams and trolleybuses should have been removed from the city streets long ago. They are morally obsolete. Instead, we need to build a metro and run convenient buses around the city. Widen the streets by removing the rails.»
«Ufa has needed a metro since 1996, but we»re fine as is. Walking is healthy!« joked another.
«The profitability of a metro starts with a passenger flow of more than 100,000 people per hour. Below that—it»s a loss! Or an expensive entertainment,« noted another.
«What»s the point of a metro? It«s noisy. Better something above-ground and eco-friendly. Maybe a monorail?» suggested a Ufa resident.
«A metro is largely more for prestige. And for such money, you could perfectly build above-ground metros or viaducts,» believes a city resident.
«We need some alternative to the metro, I think we could try light rail with dedicated quiet tracks, it»s cheaper than building underground structures,« agreed a UFA1.RU visitor.
«In Ufa, rail (cable—in areas with steep elevation changes) ground transport should be developed, or a transfer system similar to Moscow»s Central Circle (MCC) and Central Diameters (MCD),« declared a townsman.
«Probably, you enjoy crossing tram tracks. Every encounter with rails leaves an indelible impression. You»ll wear yourself out repairing the car,« objected a Ufa resident.
