Trams stall in central Yekaterinburg after accident

On 5 February, dozens of trams stopped on Lunacharskogo Street in Yekaterinburg. Readers of E1.RU report that the vehicles have been stationary for more than 20 minutes.

The city«s Department of Transport (departament transporta) reported that the problem is due to an accident — power was cut on the Shevchenko line. All routes No. 2, 3, 8, 12, 14, 16, 20, and 21 are delayed.
The city administration said that emergency crews are working at the site.
Earlier, a tram jam formed in the VIZ district (a neighbourhood in Yekaterinburg). Trams stopped on Dolores Ibarruri Street. The cause was damage to the overhead contact line.
Much more often, reckless drivers paralyse tram operations. For example, during severe frosts in mid-January, a driver of a car-sharing vehicle drove onto the tracks and got stuck, halting tram movement.
Transport collapses also frequently occur in the ZhBI district (another area of Yekaterinburg). The latest such incident we reported less than a month ago, in December. Then the cause of the tram stoppage was a «firework» that sparked above the road.
