Currently, trams are running on a reduced route from Igarskaya Street to the 52nd Quarter. Service to Moscow Railway Station will resume once rail replacement is completed.

Representatives of the Center for Transport System Development (CTSD) explained that the work is being carried out in stages.

First, the section from May 1 Park to Aksakova Street will be opened, after which work will proceed on the section from Igarskaya Street to the Northern Checkpoint,
the department reported.

The next major phase of reconstruction will involve the tracks from the turning loop on Igarskaya Street to Avtozavodskaya Metro Station. It is set to begin on February 1. This section, built in 1968 and last undergoing major repairs in 1993, is slated for a large-scale upgrade: the contractor will replace 8.1 km of rails and the overhead contact line. The main work here is planned to be completed by September.

Changes will also affect another route: tram number 8 will also only run to Avtozavodskaya Metro Station on Lenin Avenue, similar to the temporarily shortened route 417.
