At the end of 2025, tram route 21 in Nizhny Novgorod was temporarily suspended due to rail replacement. As reported by the Center for Development of Transport Systems (Tsentr Razvitiya Transportnykh Sistem, CRTS), service is expected to resume in summer 2026.

In December 2025, on the section from Komsomolskaya Square to Dubki Park, track replacement began. Two routes were suspended for the duration: route 21 and route 3. The contractor is to replace about 8.3 km of single track. As previously reported, completion was planned no earlier than November.

At the same time, representatives of the CRTS responded to Nizhny Novgorod residents in comments that tram route 21 (Cherny Prud — Park Dubki) is planned to resume operation in summer 2026.

During the work, a compensating bus route 52 was launched, running from Gorky Square to Proletarskaya metro station. At the end of January, the bus began operating on a new route, now serving Admiral Makarov Street and Dargomyzhsky Street.
