Three weigh stations to restart near Chelyabinsk after repairs

Starting January 26, three weight and dimension control points in the Chelyabinsk region will resume operation after being shut down for repairs. The equipment is currently undergoing test runs and will switch to automatic mode on that date. The regional Ministry of Road Management and Transport issued the corresponding warning on Wednesday, January 21.
The stationary posts are located at the following sections:
- Western bypass of Chelyabinsk, 14 km;
- Western bypass of Chelyabinsk, 22 km;
- Road from Dolgoderevenskoye to Argayash to Kuznetskoye to Kyshtym, 19 km.
The regional Ministry of Road Management and Transport stated: «After testing is completed, from January 26, all points will be switched to operational mode and begin full-scale operation.»
The work of such control points has previously sparked controversy. In November, truck driver Sergei, who was transporting military equipment on the M-5 highway, received a fine of 300,000 rubles (approximately $3,000 at current rates) for exceeding the height limit by 11 centimeters. The violation was recorded by a post at the 1795th kilometer of the Moscow-Chelyabinsk highway near Chebarkul. Since early October, truck drivers have been complaining en masse about this frame, suspecting inflated readings. In November, they recorded an appeal to the president demanding to check the equipment and cancel what they consider unjust fines.
