Sheremetyevo Closed to Arrivals, Aeroflot on High Alert Amid Heavy Snow

On Tuesday, 27 January, the capital«s Sheremetyevo Airport was closed to arrivals due to heavy snowfall in Moscow. The restrictions will be in place until 12:00 MSK, the airport»s press service reported.

«Airlines are adjusting their flight schedules,» added representatives of Sheremetyevo.
Aeroflot, the airline based at this air hub, announced a switch to an enhanced operating mode.
«Due to the expected increase in load on ground services and the need for constant apron clearing, there may be an increase in the time required to prepare aircraft for departure and to service arriving flights,» stated the national carrier«s press service.
According to the online board, Sheremetyevo is already experiencing departure delays, but the deviations from the schedule are not significant and, on average, do not exceed two hours. However, passengers flying into the airport will have to wait for the restrictions to be lifted.
A number of airports in other cities have already issued warnings about Sheremetyevo«s temporary closure.
«We ask for your understanding and patience regarding possible schedule adjustments. Airport and airline teams are doing everything possible to maintain the flight program. But safety is the top priority,» said Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg.
We are collecting all the latest information on the consequences of the snowfall in Moscow and the region in our online report.
Earlier we reported on a massive failure in the Leonardo ticket sales and booking system: this paralyzed the work of a number of Russian airlines and delayed flights at capital airports.
