Rostov Oblast may «test» the use of unmanned road construction equipment. This was announced by Deputy Governor — Regional Transport Minister Alena Belikova during a meeting with the director general of FAU «ROSDORNII».

In the region, ROSDORNII has two branches — in Rostov and Volgodonsk. A testing ground for unmanned road machines could be created at the base of the latter.

«Utilizing the potential of the Volgodonsk branch of ROSDORNII to create a site for unmanned road equipment will allow testing advanced solutions in real conditions and accelerate their implementation on the road network,» says Belikova.

The government of Rostov Oblast explains that this involves the use of unmanned equipment in road construction and diagnostics, which will improve the accuracy of road surface quality control, reduce risks during equipment operation, and speed up the implementation of other advanced solutions in the industry.

As reported by 161.RU, this year the most extensive roadworks are underway on the M-4 «Don» highway. This is a section of the highway from the 933rd to the 1024th kilometer — from Kamensk-Shakhtinsky to the Aksay bypass. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2027. After the repair, travel on this section of the highway will become toll-based.
