Large-scale construction and expansion of roads leading from the regional capital are planned in the Tyumen region. When will the new sections become four-lane and why was construction halted on the road to Omsk? We spoke with specialists from Uralupravtodor — they honestly shared plans for the coming years.

This road will become part of the route from Moscow to Tyumen and further to the eastern part of the country. It is being gradually completed and expanded. Note that in the Tyumen region, up to the border with Sverdlovsk Oblast, it is already four-lane — it was completed in 2024.

This road is nicknamed the «Highway of Death» due to the high number of traffic accidents.

Will it become faster and safer for Tyumen residents to reach the Urals, and when will this happen? After all, this is precisely why roads are being expanded. According to Uralupravtodor, which handles maintenance and safety on highways, Tyumen and Yekaterinburg will soon be connected by a four-lane highway.

— Four artificial structures will be introduced along the way. These include a bridge over the Tugulymka River, Aybu, Karmak. Additionally, an overpass over the railway is planned to be completed, — specialists from the company told the 72.RU editorial staff.

Besides this, the construction of certain sections is planned on the road to Yekaterinburg. New highways will appear bypassing the following settlements: Beloyarsky, Mezensky, Malye Brusyan. In 2025, a new passage around Bogdanovich was opened, where there were often huge traffic jams.

— Six two-level interchanges, 8 overpasses, 7 bridges, and 6 elevated pedestrian crossings will be built at the facility, — the specialists said.

But most importantly, when will the highway become fully four-lane? Uralupravtodor reported that the repair will be completed in 2026, when the road will allow cars to move in two lanes in each direction, and traffic flows will be separated.

The reconstruction of the M-12 highway, which is being discussed, will not end there. From the Moscow Tract to the road to Omsk, the construction of a semi-ring will begin, which will become part of the second bypass around Tyumen. According to authorities« plans, the twenty-billion-ruble (approximately $200 million at current rates) object will be built by 2030.

Highway of Death

This is often called the «northern» road — towards Tobolsk and KhMAO, because accidents often occur there, unfortunately with fatal outcomes. It is being gradually expanded, making it impossible to cross into the oncoming lane — this is one of the most common causes of accidents. What are Uralupravtodor«s plans for this road?

— Already, the highway from the 11th to the 159th kilometer has four lanes for traffic, and repair and expansion of the road on the section from the 159th to the 168th kilometer are underway. The completion of construction and installation work, specified in the state contract, is 2026, — indicated the company that monitors the condition and construction of roads.

And that«s not all. In 2025, they began expanding new sections of the highway towards Khanty-Mansiysk. They plan to put them into operation in 2027 — this concerns the road that starts at the 226th kilometer and ends at the 238th.

Further East

Let«s talk about plans for another highway that can be used to leave Tyumen. This road goes to Siberia, to the eastern part of the country. It is one of the longest passing through our region. A 300 km section should also be made four-lane — when this will happen, we»ll tell below, but first about where repairs are underway.

— Currently, the federal road R-402 Tyumen — Yalutorovsk — Ishim — Omsk from the 10th to the 89th kilometer has four lanes with traffic flows separated by a barrier, — said Uralupravtodor.

With the expansion of the highway, small bureaucratic problems arose. As road builders said, three kilometers of the highway cannot be reconstructed yet.

— On the section from the 12th to the 15th kilometer, expansion to four lanes is planned. At the 14th kilometer, a turnaround loop with lighting installation should appear. To carry out the work and the construction itself, it is necessary to increase the boundaries of the right-of-way. Because of this, work has been suspended. FKU «Uralupravtodor» is processing the necessary documents for the easement right of the section, — the company said.

Expansion work is also underway near Bogandinsky from the 37th to the 39th kilometer. This section is planned to be delivered in 2026. Design documents for another section of the road — from the 89th to the 103rd kilometer — are also being developed. According to plans, the documents will pass state examination in 2026, and construction will begin in 2027.

And when will the road become fully four-lane? After this section, more than 200 kilometers of road still need to be done.

— The expansion of sections from the 103rd to the 375th kilometer within the Tyumen region is planned for the long term, subject to funding, — added the company.

Roads are being built and expanded not only in the Tyumen region. Soon we will be able to quickly reach Krasnodar. We tell about the plans of road builders and show where the new highway will pass.
