Passengers of a commuter train in Nizhny Novgorod Region were forced to walk to the station in severe frost after a train breakdown.

The incident occurred on the morning of 24 January with train No. 6801 «Nizhny Novgorod — Metallist», which stopped three kilometers from Kozhevennaya station.

One of the passengers wrote on social media: «Russian Railways (RZD) did not provide assistance. At a temperature of −23 °C (−9 °F), passengers, including pensioners and children, walked to the station. Why did the emergency services not respond to the emergency?»

The press service of Gorky Railway (GZD) confirmed the malfunction, noting that assistance was offered to passengers. «Passengers of the train were offered to proceed to Nizhny Novgorod-Moskovsky station, where corporate transport would be provided along the train»s route,« stated GZD.

During the breakdown, there were 30 people on the commuter train. Of them, 21 people decided to make their own way from Okskaya station, and 9 reached Moskovsky station. Three of those who arrived refused corporate transport, the rest used it and reached their destinations.

The broken train was returned to Moskovsky station with the help of an auxiliary locomotive. The train delay was 1 hour 40 minutes.

«Gorky Railway apologizes to passengers for the inconvenience caused,» added the organization.
