In Volgograd, the launch of a paid parking lot on a site opposite the Tsaritsyn fire tower has been officially announced. According to city administration officials, it is intended to replace the parking on Privokzalnaya Square, even though it is located almost half a kilometer from the station.
Trial operation will begin on July 21, allowing drivers to pay for a parking space. However, no refunds will be issued for paid parking during the trial period.
As a reminder, plans to remove parking from Privokzalnaya Square were first announced back in March 2026. The cost of changing the traffic pattern near the Volgograd 1 railway station was estimated at 70 million rubles (approximately $777,800 at current rates). Drivers were offered to park instead at the site of the former free lot at the intersection of General-Lieutenant Voronin Street and Volodarskogo Street, opposite the Tsaritsyn fire tower. However, residents are already sending rays of kindness to those who came up with the idea of eliminating parking near the station:
«The station is not for strolling in the park,» residents complain. «The station is for arriving and departing… When there was parking here, there was enough space for everyone. Now there will be a huge traffic jam on Kommunisticheskaya Street. And everyone will have very kind words for the person who thought of putting a park here. And also for those who support this wonderful initiative.»
The launch of other paid parking lots in the Central, Dzerzhinsky, and Voroshilovsky districts has been postponed indefinitely, according to officials, due to the need to study all proposals received from residents.
