Officials Warn Against Travel on M-4 Don Highway in Snowstorm
The head of Novoshakhtinsk has urged residents to avoid using the M-4 Don highway due to heavy snowfall, which is expected to severely reduce visibility on the roads.

Novoshakhtinsk head Sergey Bondarenko appealed to local residents to refrain from using personal vehicles. He said the M-4 Don highway is particularly dangerous, where «conditions could be extremely hazardous» due to reduced visibility.
The Rostov Region State Traffic Inspectorate has been put on heightened alert. Employees recommend that drivers exercise caution and adhere to the following rules:
- do not exceed the speed limit;
- increase following distance and lateral spacing;
- reduce speed well in advance before pedestrian crossings and intersections.
According to weather forecasters, from January 23 to 26 the region will experience cold weather with heavy snowfall. Blizzards, freezing rain, black ice, and wet snow sticking to power lines and trees are expected. Utility services in Rostov-on-Don have been put on high alert.
