The decision was made by the working group on traffic management. This was reported to an NGS correspondent by Vyacheslav Ashurkov, head of the Novosibirsk regional office of the Russian Motorists« Federation (FAR).

The initiative was explained by the fact that traffic jams currently form at the exit from Obskaya Street even outside of rush hour.

«Currently, a driver can turn onto Obskaya right after the Ferris wheel. A proposal was made to ban this turn and allocate this lane for exiting traffic. That means from Obskaya Street at this point there will be three exit lanes, not two as it is now. The working group supported this decision,» noted Vyacheslav Ashurkov.

The expert opposed the initiative, as it puts additional traffic flow on Bolshevikskaya Street, and Obskaya Street in winter is not maintained well enough to handle such an influx from the other side. Drivers will have to travel an extra 1.3 kilometers along it to turn onto Obskaya near Griboyedov Street.

The expert added that there is still time to make a final decision and specialists can take drivers« opinions into account. The NGS correspondent has requested comments from the Novosibirsk mayor»s office.

At the end of January, it became known which roads will be repaired in the Novosibirsk region this year.
