In Sochi, the old Novorossiysk Highway is undergoing extensive repairs. According to the plan, a great deal of work is required on the 5.5-kilometer stretch. This includes laying new asphalt over a vast area—about 50,000 square meters. Sidewalks will be built, road barriers installed, and five new public transport stops will be set up. Furthermore, the storm drainage system will be completely renewed to prevent road flooding during rains.

— Within the project, milling of the old pavement, elimination of subsidence, and the installation of a leveling layer have already been completed. Preparatory work is now underway for installing about 180 new streetlights,— reported the Municipal Customer Service of Sochi.

The road is important for drivers as it provides a minor alternative to the main overloaded A-147 highway linking Sochi and Adler. To bypass traffic jams, drivers turn onto this highway, even though it only goes as far as Khosta. But even this stretch in the summer, at the height of the season, helps relieve the flow of traffic. The project will cost over 440 million rubles (about $4.4 million at current rates).

Completion of all work is scheduled for 30 June this year, ahead of the high tourist season.
