Nizhny Novgorod airport: manual check-in after system failure

On Monday, January 26, several airlines faced a large-scale failure in key passenger service systems. The incident affected a number of regions, including Nizhny Novgorod, where Chkalov Airport temporarily introduced manual check-in.
The cause of the issues was a malfunction in the Leonardo booking and ticket sales system. Because of this, passenger data stopped loading automatically at check-in counters.
«Airport staff are checking in passengers manually. This takes a bit more time. In the check-in areas, representatives of airlines are also working with passengers,» explained the Nizhny Novgorod airport.
Airlines are aware of the problem. For example, Aeroflot reported adjustments to flight schedules and did not rule out the cancellation of some flights.
The Russian Ministry of Transport and Rosaviatsia (the Federal Air Transport Agency) have increased monitoring of air transport operations. Specialists from these agencies, together with airlines and airports, are working to minimize the consequences of the failure.
Later, the systems were restored. At Chkalov Airport, passenger check-in returned to normal mode. At the moment, one Aeroflot flight SU-1225 has been canceled, which was scheduled to depart from Nizhny Novgorod to Moscow at 19:25. Representatives of the carrier are working with passengers of this flight.
