The accident rate in Krasnodar Krai decreased by 5% in 2025, fatalities by 9%, and the number of injured by 8%, the press service of the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GAI) reported. Over the year, there were 5,847 traffic accidents (711 killed, 6,957 injured). The main causes were driving into oncoming traffic and drunk drivers.

The department provided key accident indicators for the past year:

  • Driving into oncoming traffic: 23,000 violations, 99 fatalities, 12 high-profile accidents;

  • Pedestrians: 1,884 accidents, 165 fatalities (a quarter of all deaths);

  • Drunk drivers: 547 accidents, 162 fatalities (of which 140 were at fault).

GAI officers issued 30,000 administrative protocols for failing to yield to pedestrians, 9,000 for suspending drunk drivers. Another 773 cases were initiated against road services.

The most dangerous roads were regional and inter-municipal ones. Almost half of the fatalities occurred in cities and other populated areas.

«We need to continue work on suppressing traffic rule violations within the framework of operational and preventive measures and cooperate with road owners to improve road conditions,» summarized acting chief state inspector for road safety in Krasnodar Krai Oleg Bogun.

Recall that the main goal of the presidential Strategy for Improving Road Traffic Safety is to reduce road fatalities by one and a half times by 2030 and by half by 2036 compared to the 2023 level.
