January thaw destroys city roads in Volgograd
Motorists are hoping that the potholes on the roads will soon be repaired.
A sharp January thaw that hit Volgograd at the end of the last week of the second winter month has left the city«s main roads in a deplorable state. This was reported by motorists who are already calculating the costs of repairing their cars» suspensions.
«Third Longitudinal, from its very start near Nezhdanova Street and further towards Traktorny, is not a road but just some slalom section,» complain the residents. «Potholes are appearing literally before our eyes. On Second Longitudinal, especially starting from Ardatovskaya, where trucks come out, you can only drive in the far left lane — the asphalt is still holding there. Nezhdanova Street — in the right lane, with a low-clearance car, there»s nothing to do: if you don«t scrape the bottom, you»ll leave a wheel in a pothole. From here come traffic jams and everything else.«
Residents are also complaining about the long-suffering bridge over the Volga-Don Shipping Canal. According to Volgograd residents living in the Krasnoarmeysky district, despite the fact that truck traffic on the bridge is limited, the condition of the road surface there is beyond criticism.
V1.RU has sent a request to the administration of Volgograd to clarify what measures will be taken for the current repair of asphalt and elimination of the deepest potholes. Meanwhile, it is worth recalling that the Municipal Institution «Komdorstroi» is looking for a contractor who would utilize a billion rubles (approximately $10 million at current rates) on repairing four sections of the two Longitudinal roads in Volgograd.
