In 2026, large-scale reconstruction will continue on the federal highway M-4 «Don» in the Rostov Region. To reduce the negative impact on traffic flow, regional governor Yuri Slyusar has involved the police in solving the problem.
During a meeting of the Don MVD management board, Slyusar spoke about his recent meeting with the chairman of the board of «Avtodor» (the state company Russian Highways), Vyacheslav Petushenko. According to the governor, the company has committed to completing the major repair of a section of the highway in the region by 2027, with expansion to six lanes.
«They have committed to trying to complete the large-scale major repair of the M-4 »Don« highway section in the Rostov Region by 2027, bringing it up to six lanes,» stated Yuri Slyusar.
The governor asked the MVD management to establish patrols on the most congested stretches of the road, as repair works often provoke traffic jams. Slyusar reminded about the high transit traffic on M-4, which especially increases during the summer months in the resort season.
Traffic jams due to roadworks on this highway have become a common occurrence. For example, from January 27th, repairs will begin on the overpass at the 964th kilometer, which will lead to changes in the traffic pattern.
The reconstruction of the section from Kamensk-Shakhtinsky to the Aksay bypass (from the 933rd to the 1024th kilometer) was started back in May 2025. It is expected that the works will be completed in 2027, after which passage on this segment will become toll-based.
