Gaidar Square gridlocked again as roundabout 'self-blocks'

Gaidar Square and the approaches to it are again paralyzed by traffic jams. We report on the traffic situation.

Journalists from 59.RU noted that around 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Lokomotivnaya, Lenina, and Ekaterininskaya streets approaching Gaidar Square were colored crimson on the online map. The traffic jams are not as severe as on the morning of January 12, when the backups stretched for several kilometers, but passage is still difficult.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Center for Road Traffic Safety (TsBDD) Maxim Kis explained to 59.RU that the roundabout at the square «self-blocks». Also, trouble on the roads arises due to the overpass closed for a two-year repair on Cosmonauts Highway — which Perm residents are trying to bypass.

That morning, January 12, Maxim Kis personally directed traffic by hand. By evening, the Ministry of Transport published a video on how to bypass the problematic section. A few days later, to relieve the road, another traffic light was activated at this location.

On January 27, the traffic pattern at Gaidar Square will again be changed to get rid of the traffic jams.

Meanwhile, the road that Perm residents used to bypass the section under repair was blocked with concrete barriers.
