Full Tram Service on Key Nizhny Novgorod Route to Resume by Year's End

Trams on route 417 will return to their full route in Nizhny Novgorod by the end of this year. Representatives of the Central Directorate of Railway Stations and Tracks (CDRST) announced this in response to residents« questions on social media.
The route is currently operating on a reduced scheme, with trams running between Igar Street and the 52nd Quarter. They will only resume service to Moscow Railway Station after the track renewal is complete, which will happen before the year«s end.
«First, the section from May 1 Park to Aksakov Street will be opened, after which work will be carried out on the section from Igar Street to the Northern Checkpoint,» wrote the CDRST.
The next stage of tram track reconstruction will run from the turning loop on Igar Street to the «Avtozavodskaya Metro Station» stop, beginning on 1 February. The tracks on this section were built in 1968, with the last major repair conducted in 1993. The contractor will need to renew 8.1 km of rails and the overhead contact line.
For the duration of the works, the route for tram number 8 will also be shortened. Together with trams on route 417, they will run to the «Avtozavodskaya Metro Station» stop on Lenin Avenue.
Major construction and installation work on this section is planned to be completed by September.
