Fog-related road closure strands truck column near Volgograd

Fog with visibility under 50 meters has led to a 160-km closure of the P-228 highway, stranding numerous trucks.
Witnesses from Kamyshin report a large gathering of trucks that cannot proceed at their usual pace or along their usual route due to previously imposed restrictions on the P-228 Syzran–Saratov–Volgograd highway. The freight vehicles have formed a column stretching far into the fog.
The introduction of a temporary traffic restriction, which has closed 160 kilometers of the highway across three districts of the region, was reported earlier at night by the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) for Volgograd Oblast.
Due to adverse weather conditions in Volgograd Oblast (fog, visibility limited to less than 50 meters), movement restrictions for freight and passenger vehicles have been introduced as a preventive measure until further notice in the Gorodishchensky, Dubovsky, and Kamyshinsky districts from kilometer 512 to kilometer 672 of the federal highway P-228 Syzran–Saratov–Volgograd.
The restrictions have been in effect since 22:00 on 29 January, and it is still unknown when they will be lifted. EMERCOM recommends using alternative routes where possible to avoid the closed section of the highway.
Incidentally, in Volgograd, fog has also persisted since yesterday evening, which is particularly noticeable to motorists. And according to weather forecasters« predictions, it will continue to envelop the city and region in early February.
