First night of February brings heaviest snow to Nizhny Novgorod

Mayor Yuri Shalabayev of Nizhny Novgorod reported that the night of February 1 was the snowiest of the past week. According to him, the city was hit by 25 centimeters of fresh snow in just the evening and night.

During this period, 45,000 cubic meters of snow were removed from streets and highways — the maximum volume in all recent days of snowfall.
The ongoing blizzard immediately covers freshly cleared roadways and sidewalks. Serious difficulties are arising in the courtyards of residential buildings.
The mayor noted that the main problem is not snow-covered cars, but ensuring passage for emergency services and waste removal vehicles.
Courtyards are for the passage of emergency service vehicles and waste removal from container sites. I ask all responsible parties to keep this in mind when organizing their work, no matter how difficult it is now. And it is truly difficult now, as the continuing blizzard immediately buries all the efforts of road workers.Shalabayev wrote in his Telegram channel.
The city administration appealed to drivers not to park vehicles in inappropriate places to avoid interfering with snow removal equipment. Special attention is being paid to parking near tram tracks. Drivers are also asked to temporarily remove cars when special equipment is working in courtyards.
The snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day on February 1. It is anticipated that by evening the blizzard will subside, after which snow removal efforts will be significantly intensified.
