Chkalov Airport is temporarily receiving and dispatching flights in coordination with relevant authorities. On February 5, restrictions on the use of airspace around Nizhny Novgorod were reintroduced. NN.RU asked the airport to explain what this means.
“This is a situation where not the airport itself is closed, but the area approximately within a 30 km radius from it. We use this wording when drones are flying not towards Nizhny Novgorod or the airport, but somewhere nearby. Accordingly, each departure and each landing of an aircraft is discussed with the military and relevant authorities,” an airport representative told NN.RU.
The interlocutor also clarified that the measures are taken to ensure flight safety. The press service of Rosaviatsiya (the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency) added that the schedule of some flights may be adjusted. Passengers can track the status and departure time of flights on the airport«s website.
Earlier, we reported that at the end of January, airlines experienced a failure in key service systems. The Leonardo airline ticket booking and sales system encountered glitches, causing passenger data to not load automatically at check-in counters. Chkalov Airport also faced the problem. While the systems were not restored, passengers were checked in manually.
