Drivers Park on Sidewalks in Novosibirsk, Halting Pedestrians

Parked vehicles on the sidewalk make it difficult for pedestrians to pass along Potaninskaya Street.
In Novosibirsk, pedestrians are having difficulty walking along Potaninskaya Street because drivers are parking on the sidewalks. Additionally, a large amount of snow has accumulated on the road.

A local resident expressed frustration after being unable to navigate the street with a stroller because of illegally parked cars.
They Blocked the Entire Road

Residents are calling for traffic police to conduct enforcement raids on Potaninskaya Street to address the parking issue.
Readers reported on the condition of the area to NGS.

The accumulation of snow on the road and sidewalks further complicates pedestrian and vehicular movement in the area.
«This is Potaninskaya. Honestly, people who don»t respect others have become very annoying. They park on the sidewalk, completely blocking the road. Not only could I not pass with a stroller, but pedestrians could barely squeeze through one by one,« wrote an NGS reader.

During a recent incident, parked cars and snow forced the street to function as a one-way road, according to eyewitnesses.
In addition to the incorrectly parked cars on the sidewalk, most of the parking bays are buried in snow.
Reader Olga told an NGS journalist that last week the situation worsened to the point that Potaninskaya Street essentially became one-way due to cars parked along the road and uncleared snow:
«We couldn»t turn from Potaninskaya onto Sovetskaya for some time because the flow of cars in one lane was heading towards Krasny Prospekt.«
Response from the Mayor«s Office
In the press center of the Novosibirsk mayor«s office, they responded to NGS that in winter, »DEU No. 1« (Road Maintenance Department No. 1) cleans the street-road network around the clock according to approved routes and schedules.
These can be adjusted by section heads taking into account road conditions, weather, and the occurrence of emergencies.
During heavy snowfalls and temperature fluctuations, priority is given to cleaning main roads, stairs, and public transport stops.
Also, the mayor«s office clarified that the roadway adjacent to roads, sidewalks, and pedestrian paths belongs to transportation infrastructure facilities, which are monitored by the State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI).
The administration of the Central District has sent a request regarding compliance with parking and stopping rules in the area.
On Potaninskaya Street, DEU No. 1 promised to complete the cleaning by February 2.
