The weekend on the roads of the Stavropol Region was once again a difficult one. Head-on collisions, wrong-way driving, drunk and unlicensed drivers — over two days, several serious road accidents occurred with fatalities and injuries. We have compiled the key accidents of recent days.

Head-on Collision on the Highway: Two Killed

A Renault ran a red light, causing a collision that left a Kia overturned on its side.

According to preliminary data, on January 31 at around 11:30 a.m., a fatal road accident occurred on the 27th kilometer of the Georgiyevsk–Novopavlovsk road.

A driver without a license crashed into an electrical pole while under the influence.

The driver of a Lada Priora, who did not have a driving license, violated the vehicle«s position on the roadway and entered the oncoming traffic lane, where he collided with a Volkswagen.

As a result of the accident: the 30-year-old driver of the Lada Priora (a resident of a neighboring region) died at the scene; the 58-year-old driver of the Volkswagen, a resident of the Kirovsky District, also died before the ambulance arrived; a 27-year-old passenger of the domestic car with injuries was taken to the Kirovsky Hospital — the man was not wearing a seatbelt.

A biological fluid sample was taken from the driver of the Priora to determine his state of intoxication.

State Traffic Inspectorate officers and an investigative task force worked at the scene.

Red Light and a Rollover: Three in Hospital

On February 1 at around 11:30 a.m., another serious road accident occurred in Stavropol on Lomonosov Street.

The driver of a Renault car, moving in the direction of Mira Street, drove through a red light and collided with a Kia car, which overturned from the impact.

Those taken to the hospital were: the 40-year-old Renault driver with a head injury; a 35-year-old female passenger of the Kia with injuries to the head, legs, and pelvis; and another 35-year-old female passenger of the Kia.

According to traffic police officers, the Renault driver was sober and had not previously committed gross traffic violations. An investigation is underway regarding the accident.

Drunk and Without a License: Car Crashes into Power Line Pole

Another road accident occurred on January 31 at around 8:40 a.m. in the village of Soldat-Aleksandrovskoye.

A 22-year-old local woman, driving a VAZ-2112 car, allowed the vehicle to leave the road and crashed into a power line pole.

The girl sustained injuries and was hospitalized in the district hospital.

Traffic police officers established: the driver did not have a driver«s license; she got behind the wheel while intoxicated. The offender now faces administrative arrest for up to 15 days and liability for the damage caused.

The State Traffic Inspectorate once again reminds: wrong-way driving, alcohol at the wheel, and ignoring rules — are still the main causes of fatal accidents on the region«s roads.
