Concrete mixer overturns near Volgograd on icy highway
A concrete mixer overturned on highway 18R-1 in the Leninsky District of Volgograd Oblast. According to the driver, the road services are to blame for not properly sanding the slippery roads.
The video shows a combined road maintenance vehicle that is not dropping sand behind it, even though it is full and the road is wet.
— A road maintenance vehicle is driving by, loaded with sand. There«s a heap of sand piled on top. The auger isn»t spinning. The ice is horrific. Dust is flying, and it«s icy, — a voice says off-camera.
According to eyewitnesses, ten minutes later, a concrete mixer overturned on this highway — the first in a whole column that decided to change route after the accident.
— The road service management arrived, — says the driver of the overturned concrete mixer. — When asked, «Why aren»t you sanding the road?« the representative answered, »What for?« We were there for a long time, from morning until four in the afternoon, so we went to the store for groceries. The sellers there said that near the village of Kolobovka, trucks are having difficulty climbing the hill, one also overturned, and the road was blocked. They also said that a few days ago, a bread delivery vehicle went off the road. The roads there aren»t sanded, and such negligent attitude isn«t new.
The driver also added that there were no casualties, and that«s the main thing, but possibly, the spilled concrete will have to be paid for by the company out of their own pocket.
The editors of V1.RU have sent the video to the Committee of Transport and Road Infrastructure of Volgograd Oblast and are clarifying why the road in the Leninsky District is not sanded or treated with other anti-icing agents.
Recall that yesterday, January 30, in the evening, the EMERCOM (Emergency Situations Ministry) reported on the closure of highway R-228 Syzran — Saratov — Volgograd from the 512th to the 622nd kilometer due to bad weather. Today at 08:00, the restrictions were lifted «due to improved weather conditions». However, during the day, there were at least two accidents involving trucks, and trucks also got stuck in a traffic jam.
