At Chkalov Airport in Nizhny Novgorod, temporary airspace restrictions have been in effect since February 5. All aircraft arrivals and departures are carried out only with approval from the military and competent authorities.
An airport representative explained: «This is a situation where the airport itself is not closed, but the airspace within approximately 30 km of it is restricted. We use this wording when drones are flying not toward Nizhny Novgorod or the airport, but somewhere nearby. Accordingly, every takeoff and landing is discussed with the military and relevant authorities.»
The measures are aimed at ensuring flight safety. Russia«s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) added that schedules for some flights may be adjusted. Passengers are advised to monitor departure status on the airport»s official website.
Earlier, at the end of January, airlines faced a glitch in the Leonardo booking system. At Chkalov Airport, this led to manual passenger check-in until the systems were restored.
