In 2026, public transport fares will increase in Tomsk. The reasons are rising fuel costs and the need to renew the bus fleet. Carriers believe a fair fare would be 50 rubles.

«They (the carriers — Ed.) are appealing to us. Fuel prices have gone up, we need to pay salaries, renew the fleet. Documents with justifications have now been received from the carriers. These documents are being studied. I think there will be some increase (in the fare in 2026), but when it will be and by what amount is premature to say,» Tomsk Mayor Dmitry Makhinya told journalists on 26 January.

He noted that Elena Pul«, head of the »TATA« transport association, believes the fare should be 50 rubles. This, in her opinion, is an economically justified price. However, the authorities disagree: they think it is too expensive.

Currently, a bus fare in Tomsk costs 32 rubles ($0.36) when paying by card or 33 rubles ($0.37) in cash. The fare for pensioners is 28 rubles ($0.31) (cashless payment) or 29 rubles ($0.32) (cash payment). On electric transport, the fare is 30 rubles ($0.34) (cashless) or 31 rubles ($0.35) (cash). For pensioners, the tariff is 24 or 25 rubles, respectively. Baggage transportation costs 15 rubles ($0.17).

We previously reported that the fare in Tomsk transport turned out to be one of the lowest in Siberia.
