Busy Section of Yekaterinburg Ring Road to Be Dug Up for Pipe Installation

Construction work will begin at the 17th kilometer of the Yekaterinburg Ring Road (EKAD), near the Craft industrial park (in the middle of the section between the ring road«s intersections with Vysotsky Street and the Berezovsky Tract).

A culvert pipe will be installed under the road. Because of this, serious restrictions will be introduced for motorists: overtaking will be prohibited, and the speed limit will be reduced to 50 kilometers per hour. But the main thing is that workers will dig up the roadway, and traffic will be diverted to the shoulder.
The restrictions will be introduced from February 4. According to road workers, the temporary traffic scheme with a local detour will be only 170 meters long. The work is scheduled until April 15. The contractor, Trust Uraltranspetsstroy, will work on the site. The regional Ministry of Transport assured that, despite the construction work, there will be no traffic jams on the ring road.
“During peak hours, the speed on this section already does not exceed 40 km/h. According to experts, the temporary scheme with a detour directly along the section of the road is the optimal solution given the need for reconstruction of the EKAD section,” the Ministry of Transport of Sverdlovsk Region noted.
Recall that the 17th kilometer of EKAD is part of the so-called Northern Semi-Ring, which will be reconstructed in several stages. The culvert pipe is needed for the future expansion of the roadway to three lanes (in both directions). New interchanges will also be built, including a unique three-level one.
The reconstruction from the 10th to the 24th kilometer of EKAD will be carried out according to the same standards that were previously applied on the Southern Semi-Ring. According to the regional road administration, the lane width will be 3.75 meters, and the shoulders will be more than three meters. The total area of the land on which construction work will take place will exceed 200 hectares.
