Reconstruction of Arkhangelsk«s Talagi Airport will continue in 2026. According to the Arkhangelsk Region Government, 3.9 billion rubles ($48 million at current rates) will be allocated from the federal budget for the work. The modernization project is included in the state program »Construction.«

Work is planned to start in late spring. The allocated funds will be used to build a new emergency rescue station, install modern taxiways and runway infrastructure, and upgrade water treatment facilities.

«The initiative to continue reconstruction was supported by the President of the Russian Federation. The implementation of these measures will significantly improve the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the airport,» the regional authorities commented.

As a reminder, Arkhangelsk Airport underwent reconstruction in 2023, with the work contracted by the company Rostransmodernizatsiya. At that time, flights were temporarily relocated to Vaskovo Airport. Ultimately, 110,000 square meters of runway surface were replaced, and in 2024 a new passenger terminal—Pavilion No. 2—was commissioned using the operator«s own funds.

Even before the previous work was finished, news emerged that funds had gone missing during the project«s design phase. It was reported that the budget suffered damages of 7.3 million rubles ($90,000 at current rates). A criminal case was initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code—fraud committed on an especially large scale.

In 2025, the asphalt under one of the aircraft at the airport collapsed. At that time, the regional government explained to 29.RU that this situation was in no way related to the past reconstruction.

Incidentally, that same year Vladimir Putin stated that they planned to renovate the airport in Arkhangelsk. However, the president did not specify which airport he was referring to.
