Air Conditioners Removed from Samara Commuter Trains

In the Samara region, air conditioners are being dismantled from 15 electric train cars. 609,400 rubles (approximately 6,800 USD at current rates) have been allocated for this. The Samara Suburban Passenger Company is looking for a contractor who will disconnect the cables and dismantle the ceiling covering in 20 days to remove 28 air conditioners.

The auction is scheduled for 28 July 2026. The work must be completed within 20 days.

Company representatives told 63.RU that the air conditioners have not been working since the beginning of the year. The equipment broke down, and it cannot be repaired or recharged because the manufacturer«s warranty period has expired.

«The air conditioners were installed at the expense of the suburban company, and their replacement or modernization requires funding from the budget of the Samara region government,» a representative of the carrier told us.

Funds for replacement have not been allocated for the current year. New air conditioners will not appear in 2026. The possibility of installation next year is not excluded, but there are no specific deadlines. No alternative solutions have been provided so far.

Interestingly, the dismantling of air conditioners is taking place amid a heatwave. Recall that on 21 July, the air will warm up to +30 °C (86 °F) during the day. On Thursday, 23 July, it will be even hotter — up to +31 °C (88 °F).

On Monday, 20 July, in Samara, it will be +21…+23 °C (70…73 °F) with light rain. But on Tuesday, precipitation will stop and the mercury will rise. On Wednesday and Thursday — up to +30…+31 °C (86…88 °F). Precipitation is only possible on Friday, 24 July, but temperatures will remain high: +16…+21 °C (61…70 °F) at night and +26…+31 °C (79…88 °F) during the day.

The dismantling will affect cars of the ED4M and ED4MK series. These are the ones currently running on suburban routes. The Samara Suburban Passenger Company admits that there are no alternative solutions yet.
