Unplanned roadworks, which started on Saturday, caused a multi-kilometer traffic jam on the highway leading from Krasnoslobodsk (near Volgograd) to Volgograd via the «dancing bridge». For the repairs, traffic was partially closed, leaving only one lane open.

According to data from the service «Yandex Maps», the length of the traffic jam reached seven kilometers—from the traffic police post to the village of Maslovo. Drivers were forced to wait in their cars for hours in freezing weather due to the closed lane at the bridge entrance.

One of the drivers commented on the situation: «This time, the road workers remembered that their weight control system isn«t working (it didn»t work at all in the summer either). They decided to fix it at -20 degrees Celsius (-4°F), but apparently thought: «to hell with it». As a result, traffic is closed, and there«s no one on site.»

The reasons for conducting the repair work in severe frost and the timeline for their completion are currently being clarified in the regional transport and road infrastructure committee.

Similar large-scale traffic jams on this section of the road were recorded about six months ago. At that time, the introduction of daytime restrictions for freight transport almost led to a transport collapse, after which the restrictions were significantly eased.
