Week-long rain and thunderstorms forecast for Irkutsk

The unstable weather that settled over Irkutsk and the Irkutsk region last week will persist this week as well. Rain and thunderstorms are expected, Yulia Yankova, head of the Irkutsk Hydrometeorological Center, told a journalist from IrSiti.

«No significant changes in weather are expected. We are in an upper-level cyclone of low pressure, so thunderstorms keep coming. In some places they are weaker, in others more intense. In Irkutsk, for example, they are weak. This weather is expected for the next three days,» the interviewee said.

On 23 July, Irkutsk will see the most intense precipitation, while 21 and 22 July will have light rain. This will occur against a backdrop of high daytime temperatures. The air over the next three days will warm to +26…+29 °C (79–84 °F). Across the region, temperatures will reach +25…+30 °C (77–86 °F).

At night in Irkutsk it will be quite cool — only +11…+12 °C (52–54 °F). For July, this is below the norm. But already on 22–23 July, the temperature will rise to +15 °C (59 °F).

«Instability persists across the region as well. There are thunderstorms in some places, even intense ones, especially in the north. On 22 and 23 July, precipitation may occur across the entire region,» Yankova added.

According to preliminary forecasts from meteorologists, such weather will likely persist until the very end of the week.
