Flooding and Blackout Follow Omsk Thunderstorm

Yesterday, 19 July, a thunderstorm with rain, thunder, and strong winds arrived in Omsk. The elements raged all evening. NGS55.RU has gathered the aftermath of the bad weather in one report.

Around 20:30, lightning struck the «Myasokombinat» substation and damaged equipment. Residents of the Solnechny microdistrict were left without power.

«The power was cut off in the entire Solnechny neighborhood. «Omskenergo» turned off the duty officer«s phone. It took us three hours to get through, and they told us that on 20 July they would restore electricity by noon. The night shift wasn»t going to do anything. Nothing was being repaired after the storm and lightning,» wrote a resident in the «Incident Omsk» community on VKontakte.

The administration responded to his complaint. They confirmed that power supply would be restored within the day.

«According to information received from staff, the damage will be repaired on 20 July 2026.»

In the Max messenger, the mayor of Omsk, Sergey Shelest, also reported other incidents. After the rain, Malinovskogo, Zavodskaya, Transsibirskaya, and Pevtsova streets were flooded — residents asked for the water to be pumped out. On Yakovleva and 22nd Partsyezda streets, the wind broke tree branches. They are to be cleared by city services.

«Individual citizen appeals received by the dispatch service of the Road Management and Improvement Administration are being addressed in the usual manner. The condition of roadways and pedestrian zones is being monitored. If necessary, water pumping is carried out in areas of flooding and accumulation of rainwater using special equipment,» the mayor added.
