On 20 July, Yekaterinburg was again hit by a heavy downpour, but meteorologists promise a quick improvement in the weather.
Meteorologist Aleksei Pulin, who runs the telegram channel «Weather in Yekaterinburg,» explained the reasons for the prolonged rains: «Since the end of May, a low-pressure area has dominated the region, continuously supported by cyclones moving into the Urals from the west and southwest.»
Starting from 21 July, the weather in Sverdlovsk Oblast will be determined by an anticyclone. The cyclone will shift, and precipitation will cease. Average daily temperatures will exceed the norm by 2–5 degrees, with warm and even hot weather expected.
According to Aleksei Pulin, the influence of the anticyclone and the lack of significant precipitation could persist until the end of the month.
Such tropical downpours are not uncommon for the region. Rainy summer seasons have been observed before, for example in 1993–1994 and 2014–2015.
This summer, an abnormal amount of precipitation has fallen in the Urals. Floods have temporarily closed federal highways. The most difficult situation is in Irbit (Sverdlovsk Oblast), where residents are forced to sleep in their cars and reach their homes by rubber boats.
