Anticyclone to End Yekaterinburg's Tropical Rains

On 20 July, Yekaterinburg was again hit by a tropical downpour, but the bad weather will soon pass, forecasters promise.

Alexey Pulin, a meteorology expert and author of the Telegram channel «Weather in Yekaterinburg», explained to E1.RU why Sverdlovsk Oblast has been drenched by rains for two months and when it will stop.

«Since the end of May, a zone of low atmospheric pressure has prevailed over the region, continuously fed by cyclones moving into the Urals from the west and southwest,» — replied Alexey Pulin.

From 21 July, the weather across the entire region will be determined by an anticyclone, which will shift over the Urals as the cyclone moves away. Precipitation will stop, and average daily temperatures will exceed the norm by 2–5 degrees Celsius (35.6–41°F). Finally, it will become warm (and even hot).

«In the future, the influence of the anticyclone and the absence of significant precipitation may persist until the end of the month,» — suggested Alexey Pulin.

But overall, such tropical downpours are not uncommon for Sverdlovsk Oblast. Rainy summer seasons have occurred before, for example, in 1993–1994 and 2014–2015.

Recall that this summer, an anomalous amount of precipitation has fallen in the Urals. Due to floods, federal highways had to be closed. The situation is worst in Irbit, where residents have to sleep in cars and reach their homes by inflatable boats.
