Hockey players from Nizhny Novgorod«s Torpedo defeated Yaroslavl»s Lokomotiv, the reigning KHL champion, for the second time in five days. The away match took place on 19 January.
The game ended with a score of 3:1 in favor of the visitors. In the middle of the second period, Daniil Zhuravlev opened the scoring, but Lokomotiv quickly equalized. Then, Vasily Atanasov put Torpedo back in front, and Vladimir Tkachev scored the winning goal.
Torpedo«s head coach Alexei Isakov emphasized the importance of this game for the team. He noted that after a home win over the same opponent, the team was prepared for Lokomotiv»s aggressive pressure.
Alexei Isakov said:
It«s very good that we won away from home. In December we did experience certain difficulties with our game. Now the team is starting to build the momentum we»d like to see. But we understand that in order to continue playing at this level, we need to be constantly 100% ready.
The success in Yaroslavl became the Nizhny Novgorod team«s fourth consecutive victory in the championship. Earlier, on 17 January, they prevailed over Moscow»s Spartak away, and before that, they snatched victory from Dynamo.
