Three representatives of the Tula region will compete at the European Track Cycling Championships in Konya, Turkey, from February 1 to 5. Competing as part of the Russian team, which is entered under a neutral status, the region will be represented by Alina Lysenko, Yekaterina Yevlanova, and Igor Girilovich. All three will start in the sprint disciplines, according to the press service of the Marathon-Tula team.
For Igor Girilovich, this tournament will be his first international start in his career. The athlete admitted that he sees the trip as a great opportunity and a serious step forward. According to him, the preparation for the competition was extremely intense, and the competition is expected to be very high — strong and titled opponents will take to the track. Nevertheless, the racer intends to show his best results.
An additional difficulty will be the velodrome in Konya itself — it is located at altitude, which affects the physical condition of the athletes and requires special adaptation.
A total of 10 Russian cyclists made up the team for the European Championships. In the tempo disciplines, Lev Gonov, Ilya Savyokin, Yegor Igoshev, and Valeria Valgonen will compete. In the sprint, in addition to the Tula athletes, Nikita Kiriltsev, Nikita Kalachnik, and Yana Burlakova are also entered.
