Sports School Near Volgograd Crumbling After Pipe Burst

Residents of Kamyshin in the Volgograd Region have shown the appalling state of Children and Youth Sports School No. 1. According to locals, the school«s hall was practically destroyed after the New Year holidays due to a utility accident. Officials have already assured that everything will be repaired soon, but they do not say when that will be.

According to local residents, the school is used not only by children but also by adults:
«This is an old building that was converted into a sports school long ago. Now it houses children»s sports sections for long jump, basketball, volleyball, and table tennis,« one visitor said. »The most dilapidated one is the small hall. The large hall can still be used for training. Children train here for free, adults pay 700 rubles (about $8 at current rates) per person. From time to time we even gather, do some painting, fix things, but nothing has been properly repaired for two years already.«
A Kamyshin resident assures that the hall is not used for classes. The sections that trained in this room are forced to squeeze into other halls:
«Right before the New Year, a heating pipe burst and flooded everything. Because of the steam and moisture, the ceiling collapsed, and holes appeared in the floor. Only 8 out of 20 people can train in the tennis group. And only because these tables on wheels can be rolled out after the volleyball players leave at 7 p.m.,» the resident continued. «At first they promised to repair it as soon as everything dried. And when the time came, they said »it«ll do.» Maybe there«s no money in the budget? But athletes from different districts come here for competitions!»
The Kamyshin Administration«s Committee for Physical Culture and Sport assured that they are aware of the situation and are taking all measures to restore the school. They asked to redirect questions about repair timelines to the chairman, who was not present. The school»s and director«s phones listed on the official website could not be reached.
Earlier we wrote about how a participant in the special military operation, Nikolai Vasilyev, born and raised in the khutor of Kletsko-Pochtovsky, recorded a video address in which he asks to preserve the school in his native village. According to him, the educational institution is planned for reorganization, which, in his opinion, will lead to the slow death of his hometown.
