Children and Youth Sports School No. 1 in Kamyshin, Volgograd Oblast, has been left in an emergency state after a utility accident during the New Year holidays. According to local residents, the building has been seriously damaged, and the authorities, while promising restoration work, have not set a timeline for it.

Table tennis tables on wheels allow training to be conducted despite the lack of space.

One of the institution«s visitors said: »This is an old building that was converted into a sports school long ago. Currently, it houses children«s sports sections for long jump, basketball, volleyball, and table tennis,» the visitor continued, «The most damaged one is the small hall. The large hall can still be used for training. Children train here for free, adults pay 700 rubles per person (about $8 at current rates). From time to time, we even get together to do some painting or repairs, but nothing has been properly repaired for two years.»

The townsman noted that due to the accident«s consequences, the damaged hall is now not used for training. The sections that trained there are forced to relocate to other rooms. »Right before New Year, a heating pipe burst and flooded everything. Due to steam and moisture, the ceiling collapsed, and holes appeared in the floor. In the tennis group, only 8 out of 20 people can train, and only because these tables on wheels can be rolled out after the volleyball players leave at 7:00 p.m.,« the townsman continued. »At first, they promised to repair it as soon as everything dried out. But when the time came, they said, «it»ll do.« Maybe there»s no money in the budget? And athletes from different districts come here for competitions!«

The Committee for Physical Culture and Sports of the Kamyshin administration reported that they are aware of the situation and are taking measures to restore the school. When asked about the repair timeline, they referred inquiries to the chairman, who was not available at the time of the request. Attempts to reach the school«s management via the contact phones listed on the official website were also unsuccessful.
