SKA suffers seventh consecutive defeat

In a KHL regular season match held on February 1, St. Petersburg SKA lost to Moscow CSKA in a shootout. The main time ended with a score of 2:2, and no winner was determined in overtime.
Goals for SKA were scored by Andrei Pedan and Rocco Grimaldi. For CSKA, Denis Gurianov and Nikita Nesterov found the net. The winning shootout was converted by CSKA player Vitaly Abramov.
This defeat is SKA«s seventh consecutive under coach Igor Larionov. The team set a new club record for the longest losing streak in the KHL. The previous record of six straight losses was recorded in 2021, when Valery Bragin was head coach.
SKA«s last victory was on January 14, defeating the Shanghai Dragons 5:2. Then followed losses to Sochi, Minsk Dynamo, Spartak, Lokomotiv, Torpedo, and CSKA. On January 30, the Petersburg team lost away to Spartak 0:4.
SKA holds the eighth spot in the Western Conference standings, with 53 points in 50 games played. The ninth place does not qualify for the playoffs, but there are 18 games left in the regular season.
SKA«s next match will be on February 3 in Minsk against the local Dynamo.
